Chicago Bears at Cleveland Browns Betting Preview/Player Prop

25 September 2021

One of the best Week 3 matchups in the NFL takes place in Cleveland, Ohio, as the Browns are set to host the Chicago Bears. Both teams come into this matchup with a record of 1-1, and this is a battle of playoff teams from a season ago.

Chicago was blown out by the Los Angeles Rams in the season opener, but the Bears were able to respond in Week 2. The Bears picked up a win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday and are now looking for another win over an AFC North team.

Cleveland was also a winner in Week 2, but it took the Browns some time to get going in a win over Houston. The Browns are one of the best teams in the AFC, but they have some work to do before they contend for a title.

The Cleveland Browns are 7.5-point favorites over the Chicago Bears on Sunday at home.

Fields Ready to Lead Bears

The time is now for Justin Fields to take over as the starting quarterback for the Chicago Bears. Fields has been seeing some action in the first two weeks of the season, but the team is all his now that Andy Dalton is injured.

Look for the Bears to try and establish the run game on Sunday afternoon as running back David Montgomery is one of the best in the league. Fields can also make some plays with his legs, but the Bears need some passing yards to provide balance.

It’s hard to know what to make of the defense for the Bears as there have been two very different results. Chicago was blown out in Week 1, but that unit really took control in the win over the Bengals.

Browns Must Get Stops

Cleveland is giving up 27 points per game this season, but that number is inflated from playing Kansas City in Week 1. The Browns do have an aggressive defensive front, and that unit will be looking to come after Fields early and often in this game.

Baker Mayfield has thrown for 534 yards through the first two games of the year, but he continues to make costly mistakes. Mayfield has already thrown a pair of interceptions, and the Bears have been known for taking the ball away.

Running back Nick Chubb has emerged as one of the best running backs in the NFL, but he will be facing a tough task in this game. Establishing the run game with Chubb could lead to a big day for the Browns' offense.

Browns Blow Out Bears

Having Justin Fields on the field Sunday will provide a huge boost to the offense of the Bears, but he is also unproven. The offense is always a big key for the Bears, and they are facing a loaded defense on Sunday.

Cleveland has played well enough to be 2-0 this season, but facing the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1 forced them to take a loss. There are still some concerns about the overall play of Baker Mayfield, but he should have a big day against a struggling Bears secondary.

Bet the Cleveland Browns -7.5 over the Chicago Bears as the home team picks up a double-digit win on Sunday afternoon.

Player Prop

Nick Chubb (-175) To Score A TD

The Browns have had some challenges to their passing game in the early going with injuries to Odell Beckham Jr and most recently Jarvis Landry. While Beckham is expected to make his season debut on Sunday against the Bears, his playing time is likely to be limited. And Landry will be out at least three weeks with an MCL sprain.

But that doesn’t leave the Cleveland offense without options thanks to a solid front line and a running game that includes Chubb. The former Georgia RB has been brilliant since the Browns took him with the 35th pick in the 2018 draft.

After just missing 1,000 yards in his first season (996), he’s topped the mark the last two seasons and had a healthy yards-per-carry last year of 5.6. He’s also found the end zone consistently with eight TDs in each of his first two seasons and 12 last year.

And he’s already off to another banner year this season with 178 rushing yards (6.8 avg) and three TDs through the first two games.

While Cleveland deals with the injuries to its passing game, we’ll look for Chubb to continue to dominate and take the RB (-175) to score at least one TD on Sunday.
