CFL Weekly Preview

16 September 2021

Calgary at Hamilton

Time: 7:00 pm ET

Dunkel Ratings: Calgary 111.292; Hamilton 119.206

Dunkel Line & Total: Hamilton by 8; 32

Vegas Line & Total: Hamilton by 3 ½; 41 ½

The Ticats lost by a single point in Week 6, falling to the Argos 17-16. Dave Evans struggled mightily, throwing for only 192 yards and an interception. Meanwhile, the Stampeders bounced back with an impressive 32-16 road win over the Elks last week. Bo-Levi Mitchell returned at quarterback and wide receiver Kamar Jorden took over with 12 receptions for 159 yards.

Calgary’s offense finally looked like what it has been in previous years, but Hamilton’s defense at home will be a tough test for the Stamps. Calgary’s defense hasn’t been impressive at all in 2021, and Dave Evans should bounce back here.

Dunkel Pick: Hamilton (-3 ½); Under

Toronto at Saskatchewan

Time: 9:45 pm ET

Dunkel Ratings: Toronto 110.148; Saskatchewan 118.272

Dunkel Line & Total: Saskatchewan by 8; 38

Vegas Line & Total: Saskatchewan by 4; 42 ½

The Riders got beat down by the Bombers last week, losing 33-9. They’ve dropped two games in a row and haven't been able to put up more than nine points in their last two matches. Luckily, those were against the best team in the league, and getting back on home field in Regina this week signals a bounce back game for the Riders.

Toronto’s defense has been great, but their offense will have a tough time in this environment. Take Saskatchewan as favorites on the spread. Currently, they’re the second best team in the West Division.

Dunkel Pick: Saskatchewan (-4); Under

BC at Montreal

Time: 7:00 pm ET

Dunkel Ratings: BC 113.670; Montreal 109.045

Dunkel Line & Total: BC by 4 ½; 42

Vegas Line & Total: Pick; 48 ½

Mike Reilly and the BC offense put on a show for their home fans last weekend, scoring 45 points and blowing Ottawa out. Their defense also allowed only 13 points on the night, and will now travel to Montreal to face an Alouettes team that has yet to record a win on their home turf.

Being the away team doesn’t matter at all, and as long as BC can keep quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. in the pocket, they’ll win this game outright to improve to 4-2 on the season.

Dunkel Pick: BC; Under

Winnipeg at Edmonton

Time: 9:45 pm ET

Dunkel Ratings: Winnipeg 118.458; 115.513

Dunkel Line & Total: Winnipeg by 3; 45

Vegas Line & Total: Winnipeg by 6 ½; 41 ½

With Elks gunslinger Trevor Harris moved to the six-game injured list, Vegas has Edmonton as 6.5 home underdogs. While Winnipeg is far and away the best team in the CFL, they aren;’t an offensive juggernaut and Edmonton’s defense has been stingy all year long. The Bombers will win, but this game will be closer than it appears. At Dunkel Index, we have this as a field goal game, and that’s what I expect the final score to be decided by.

Dunkel Pick: Edmonton (+6 ½); Over
