CFL Week 9 Betting Preview

04 August 2022

With Week 9 almost underway, we are finally getting the clear-cut contenders. One undefeated team is still left in the league, and the rest of the West is heating up!

The East is struggling, but they seem to have finally found some wind underneath their wings! Scroll down to check out the Week 9 CFL betting preview!

Winnipeg at Montreal

Time: 7:30 pm ET
Dunkel Ratings: Winnipeg 113.991; Montreal 117.562
Dunkel Line & Total: Montreal by 3 ½; 55
Vegas Line & Total: Winnipeg by 6 ½; 46 ½
Dunkel Pick: Montreal (+6 ½); Over

The best team in Canadian Football heads into La Belle Province for an excellent kickoff game in Quebec. This is the first matchup in a two-game series for these two teams. Willie Jefferson and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (8-0) throw down against Eugene Lewis and the Montréal Alouettes (2-5).

Many people smell an upset brewing in Montreal. Even with the Alouettes' recent struggles, is it logical to bet them ATS? Winnipeg has struggled to pull away from games this year. While they may be undefeated, they have only won by more than two possessions once this year! Both sides of the ball are well balanced, but they haven't blown out many teams.

While Montreal may have a poor record, they have managed to keep many games close thus far. In their seven games, they are 4-3 against the spread. They have lost by more than one touchdown only once this season, so it is safe to say they will likely cover this spread!

Calgary at Ottawa

Time: 7:30 pm ET
Dunkel Ratings: Calgary 114.112; Ottawa 115.754
Dunkel Line & Total: Ottawa by 1 ½; 43
Vegas Line & Total: Calgary by 6; 46 ½
Dunkel Pick: Ottawa (+6); Under

The CFL schedule continues with some Friday fun in the nation's capital for what could be a wild game. Bo Levi Mitchell's rowdy Calgary Stampeders (4-2) head to the capital city of Canada for the first time this season to face off against Jaelon Acklin and the Ottawa Redblacks (1-6).

Could there be an upset brewing in Ottawa? With a poor start to the year, the Redblacks FINALLY get a tally in the win column! The rally for Ottawa starts now. This is a big week for Ottawa fans indeed! The Redblacks have been better ATS than Calgary overall. Ottawa is 0-3 ATS at home, and Calgary has been 0-3 ATS away! It will be very interesting to see who gets the win tally.

It will be a rather unlikely event that Ottawa wins, however. The Stampeders match very well against Ottawa. With a better WR corps and QB, the Stamps have a better offense, but on the defensive side of the ball, it seems to be evenly mediocre. No team will run away with this game, so Ottawa will cover.

Hamilton at Toronto

Time: 7:00 pm ET
Dunkel Ratings: Hamilton 114.904; Toronto 104.770
Dunkel Line & Total: Hamilton by 10; 40
Vegas Line & Total: Hamilton by 1 ½; 46 ½
Dunkel Pick: Hamilton (-1 ½); Under

The battle of Ontario is likely the most important matchup this week. These two east division teams are looking for an edge over each other, and it is going down Saturday night in Hammer town! The division-leading Toronto Argonauts (3-3) head to hammer town to face off against the 2 QB system of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2-5).

In the Tiger-Cats' last two games, they have covered the spread. They are currently the hottest team ATS in Canadian Football. Ever since they started split QBs, things have gone very well for Hamilton. The new system put in place is finally rolling.

Both of these teams are in dire need of a win, yet Toronto has not shown much fire. They are ranked last in points per game and have yet to win by more than ten points. Hamilton is able to put up major numbers, and that is the primary contributor to Hamilton covering this spread!

Edmonton at BC

Time: 10:00 pm ET
Dunkel Ratings: Edmonton 109.468; BC 110.513
Dunkel Line & Total: BC by 1; 49
Vegas Line & Total: BC by 10 ½; 46 ½
Dunkel Pick: Edmonton (+10 ½); Over

Our ninth week of CFL football concludes with a West division matchup. Sunday night football is all the way to the West of Canada for an excellent game in the late window. It's Kenny Lawler and the Edmonton Elks (2-5) facing off against Nathan Rourke and the BC Lions (5-1).

There is no doubt that the Lions will likely come out on top. It is very tough to envision a scenario in which the Elk beat the Lions. When making these odds, Vegas clearly understood that it will likely be a blowout. But Vegas may have overreacted a fair bit.

Ten points is a lot. Even though the last team these teams faced off, the Elks got their socks blown off, having a high spread leaves room to wiggle. This spread is too high, and for that reason, it makes sense to have faith the Elk cover the spread but lose this game!
