CFL Week 8 Betting Preview

As we approach the midpoint of the season, we are getting the best versions of most teams. Many teams' outlooks are looking up whilst others continue to spiral. With the worst team in the league on bye this week, there are truly no easy picks for this week.  

Montreal at Hamilton

Time: 7:30 pm ET

For the weekly opener, we are treated to what will be an excellent game in Hammer town. Trevor Harris and the Montréal Alouettes (2-4) face off against Dane Evans and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1-5). Even though Montréal is one game up, there will be an upset brewing!

It is no secret that Dane Evans has turnover problems. He leads the league in interceptions and fumbles. That does not really sound ideal unless the defense you are playing is sloppy.

The Als' defense always manages to crumble regardless of how many points they are up by. The aerial attack Hamilton has will not be easy to stop.

Montréal's offense matches up very poorly against Hamiltons. The Hamilton defense limits passing yards to under 250, which is second best in the CFL.

Regardless of how amazing the Als offense plays, they managed to get dragged down by their defense. The Montréal defense always blows their lead regardless of the size.

Thus, Hamilton will win this one-possession game. No matter how large the Als get ahead, their defense will be the bane of their existence. 

BC at Saskatchewan

Following that game, some Friday night football in Regina! Nathan Rourke and the BC Lions (4-1) throw down against Cody Fajardo and the Saskatchewan Roughriders (4-3)! Two of the most exciting teams in the CFL face off against each other for the first time this year!

The big story of this game is going to be Rourkemania taking on the Regina sack party. The winner of this markey matchup will be victorious throughout the whole game. Rourkemania has taken the league by storm!

They lead the league in total points, points per game, and point differential. However, they will be no match for the sack-hungry Roughriders!

Three of the top of five leading sack getters are members of the party. Rourke will be forced to make mistakes, and he will be on the floor most of the time.

The Roughriders with Fajardo (who will hopefully return) have the dynamic ability to shred what has been a high-end Lions defense. Even with weapons being out, Cody has been able to dominate every defense and should expect more of the same this week as they thrash the Lions! 

Winnipeg at Calgary

The battle for West division supremacy continues on Saturday evening in Alberta! Zach Collaros and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (7-0) look to keep their perfect record against Bo Levi Mitchell and the Calgary Stampeders (4-1). McMahon Stadium will most certainly be rowdy for this matchup!

No matter how talented the squad, Winnipeg manages to come out with yet another victory! This week will be no exception to that! The defense in Las Pegas will far overpower the offense in Calgary.

The offense for the Stamps is consistently OK. The Winnipeg defense has yet to allow over 25 points thus far this season.

The Bombers' offense has a number of weapons and will make it rather difficult for the Stamps to contain. While the Bomber run game has been non-existent, their pass attack has been lights out with tons of stud playmakers!

Ottawa at Toronto

The CFL week concludes with an Ontario smackdown on Sunday! Caleb Evans and the Ottawa Redblacks (0-6) seek their first win of the season against McLeod Bethel-Thompson and the Toronto Argonauts (3-2). The East division will be in for quite a shakeup after this game.

Toronto has been unable to run away with any game this year. Their point differential is -25 as they have only scored 106 points through five games which is the third last in the CFL thus far. While their roster features many talented players, they will likely struggle against this mid-tier Redblacks defense.

Ottawa's offense has been a mixed bag. While Jaelon Acklin has been a major contributor, nobody else has been consistent. Acklin has been the feature player on their offense, and there has yet to be an attempt to find another target.

This is really anyone's game because neither of these teams are able to win big so betting on the underdog makes logical sense.
