CFL Week 5 Betting Preview

Transitioning from a long weekend of football, we get yet another week of CFL football. There are only three games this week, and three teams have a bye. The matchups this week are bound to be electric with so many top teams clashing!

Calgary at Edmonton

Time: 9:00 pm ET

Week 5 kicks off with the battle of Alberta! The Stampeders are headed off to the provincial capital to face off against the Elk.

The Stampeders have been a very excellent surprise during the first month of the season. One of three undefeated teams remaining, they have shown out every week. 

QB Bo Levi Mitchell led the Stampeders to a solid start. He has limited his turnovers and, in turn, has played some very nice football.

They have been defensively in the middle regarding most stats. They are near the league average in yards and points allowed. This matchup may be able to buffer their stats against a very poor Elk team.

Big ups for the Elk pulling together a very good win against the struggling Tiger-Cats. Tre Ford had a solid outing throwing for over 150 yards and throwing one touchdown. A very nice start, and he could potentially carry that into this game.

The defense is ranked the worst in a multitude of categories, such as allowed rushing yards, allowed total yards, and allowed PPG. This is a concern for any bettor that wants to take the underdog in this game. The Elk frankly matchup rather poorly against the Stampeders. 

Ottawa at Saskatchewan

The next matchup is some Friday night fun as the winless Redblacks take on the red hot Saskatchewan Roughriders!

It can't be overstated how great Cody Fajardo has been this year. His weapons like Duke Williams, Kian Schaffer-Baker, and Jammal Morrow have been outstanding as Fajardo continues to dominate opposing defenses. Fajardo currently ranks near the top of the CFL in every positive category!

The Regina sack party truly brought the heat back last week. While they finally minimize their penalties, the Roughriders allow the least amount of rush yards and the second least amount of YPG. It does not seem, however, that they'll run away with this game. 

They will have to deal with gunslinger Jeremiah Masoli and the Redblacks. While their record may not show it, this offense has been able to move the ball as Masoli has two 300+ yard games thus far.

He has connected very nicely with his receivers just about everywhere but the endzone. If this team can score, they are in great shape.

Their defense is certainly not doing them any favors. As they allow 24 PPG and over 350 YPG, it seems they have been shaky. They have been very close and are able to compete, so there is reason to believe they will cover the spread. 

Winnipeg at BC

Time: 7:00 pm ET

This is by far going to be the best game of the week. Two undefeated teams going toe to toe.

No teams have been as good as these two, and we can expect an unreal game. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will head to the west to faceoff against the BC Lions.

The Blue Bomber offense has been rather conservative. MOP Zach Collaros has been an efficient passer and limits his mistakes which allows the team to continue to win. The running game has not been as explosive this year since the loss of RB Andrew Harris.

The story of this team is easily their defense as they have been lights out. They have allowed the least amount of points per game in the CFL. 

Bettors should feel confident they will keep it close and cover the spread.
That will not be an easy task as they get the pleasure of playing against red-hot Nathan Rourke!

Rourkemania has taken the league by storm and will not be stopped. With so many dynamic weapons, it will be very interesting to see this team face off against the toughest defense in Canadian football!

The Lions' defense has been arguably the best defense thus far. Being second in allowed PPG and allowing the least amount of YPG, there is no slow-rolling for this roaring defense. They will not be an easy task for the Blue Bombers. 

This will be an amazing way to cap off an unreal week of matchups!
