Carolina Hurricanes at Dallas Stars Betting Preview
25 January 2023

There are some great NHL matchups set to take place on Wednesday night, but the game of the day will be taking place in Dallas. The Stars are set to host the Carolina Hurricanes, and both of these teams look like Stanley Cup title contenders this season.
Carolina comes into this game in first place in the Metropolitan Division, and they are also one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. The Hurricanes have won four of their last five games, and they also beat Dallas in overtime earlier this season.
Dallas is still leading the Central Division, but they are starting to get challenged by some of their biggest rivals. The Stars have gone 3-2 in their last five games, but they did suffer a 3-2 overtime loss to Buffalo in their most recent game.
The Carolina Hurricanes are the moneyline betting favorites at -114 on the road in Dallas against the Stars.
Hurricanes Finding Some Offense
The Carolina Hurricanes are scoring 3.2 goals per game this season, but they are actually capable of being even better on the offensive end. Carolina is scoring on the power play just 18 percent of the time, and that is one area that could improve.
Martin Necas is leading the team with 41 points on the year, but it’s been a balanced attack that has guided the Hurricanes up to this point. Carolina has scored five goals in back-to-back games, and that is going to give them some momentum.
The Hurricanes have been a solid defensive team, as they are holding opponents to just 2.6 goals per game. Antti Raanta has gone 10-2-3 in the blue paint this season, and he should be getting the start in this one.
Stars Great on Special Teams
The Dallas Stars have had a terrific season overall, but they have been especially great on special teams. Dallas has scored on the power play 26 percent of the time, and they have also killed off 83.5 percent of their penalties.
Goaltender Jake Oettinger has been terrific this season as he has gone 21-7-5, and he also has four shutouts. He is going to struggle to shut out Oettinger in this game, but he should put up a low number.
Dallas did just score only two goals in a loss to Buffalo in their most recent game, and it’s going to take a much better offensive effort to win this game.
Stars Survive in Thriller
The overall statistics are extremely similar for each team, and that is going to lead to a great battle on the ice. The first meeting between the Hurricanes and Stars went to overtime, and there isn’t going to be much separation in this game either.
Carolina is coming into this game with plenty of momentum, but they are also going to be dealing with a tough environment. This is a game that the Stars need to win on their home ice, and they should have what it takes to get that done.
Bet the Dallas Stars moneyline as they are able to get enough stops late in the game to take control and pick up the win.
