Cadence Bank Houston Open 2022 Betting Preview

The PGA Tour is back stateside after trips to Bermuda and Mexico over the last couple of weeks. The Cadence Bank Houston Open has had a bevy of different sponsors over the years, but at least the venue has stayed consistent as this will be the third straight year playing at Memorial Golf Course.
The Tour has seen a nice mix of favorites (Rory McIlroy at the CJ Cup) and underdogs (Russell Henley at the World Wide Technology Championship) in the last few weeks. Let's see who the Dunkel Index likes this week.
Hideki Matsuyama -33.756
Hideki Matsuyama hasn't yet found his groove in the Fall part of the Tour, with his best finish being 25th at the Fortinet Championship and which also included coming in 40th at the ZOZO Championship in his native Japan.
Matsuyama has played at Memorial Park Golf Course one time back in the 2020 tournament, faring well with a runner-up finish two strokes back from Carlos Ortiz.
Russell Henley -33.963
The perfect storm seems to be lining up for Russell Henley here. He was on fire last week at the World Wide Technology Championship, tying the tournament record with a -23.
Henley hadn't won on the Tour since the 2017 Houston Open, which was held at the Golf Club of Houston, but he was T7 at Memorial Park Golf Course in this event last season.
Tony Finau -36.037
Tony Finau has a tournament under his belt, making his Fall debut last week at Mayakoba, missing the cut with a 68-71. Finau finished last year strong by winning the 3M Open and Rocket Mortgage Classic while also having two other top 10s over his final five tournaments of the year.
Sam Burns -36.085
#12 in the OWGR Sam Burns is the second highest ranked golfer in this weekend's field behind #2 Scottie Scheffler.
He's got a T30 at the Sanderson Farms Championship and a T7 at the CJ Cup this year in the best field of the Fall leg. T7 is very familiar, as that's what Burns has finished in each of his last two trips to the Houston Open.
Scottie Scheffler -36.857
We will find out right away if Scheffler is back from losing a Sunday lead to McIlroy at the Tour Championship, going winless at the Presidents Cup, and finishing T45 at the CJ Cup. He had his best showing in a long time with a T3 last weekend at Mayakoba, which included a scorching 62 on Sunday.
Scheffler was the second-place finisher here last season, two strokes back from winner Jason Kokrak.
There will be a new winner crowned this weekend, with Ortiz and Kokrak - the last two Houston Open champions - both off to the LIV. This course plays very long and somewhat difficult, with many people comparing it to the layout that might be found at a Major.
Underdogs probably won't be in the mix this week, so look for one of these big names to be trying to hold off the lead on Sunday.
