Brooklyn Nets at Phoenix Suns Betting Preview/Prop Pick

01 February 2022

In what could be a preview of the NBA Championship, the Brooklyn Nets take on the Phoenix Suns. Tonight is going to be an incredible game to watch; the only question is surrounding injuries.

The Nets have struggled with injuries the entire season and have suffered four straight losses. As they prepare to face the Suns, the availability of James Harden is still unknown.

The Phoenix Suns, however, are on the complete opposite end of the spectrum. Although they’re dealing with quite a few injuries, that hasn’t stopped them from winning games.

At this point, the Suns have a 40-9 record with no signs of slowing down. They obviously come in as heavy favorites in this game. The question is, can they cover the -7 at home over the Nets?

Brooklyn Nets: In danger of losing five straight

Sure, there is still tons of basketball left to be played this year. However, it’s going to be very hard to climb out of the hole the Nets have dug for themselves. They’re 29-20 and have fallen to the No.6 spot in the Eastern Conference.

Kevin Durant has already been ruled out for this game, and James Harden is questionable. So, what can the Brooklyn Nets do to win this game?

Even worse news for the Nets is that they’re on the road. Brooklyn heads to face the Phoenix Suns, a team that is 21-5 when playing at home. With their superstars out, the production on offense is going to be slim.

If they want to pull this one off, the bench players will need to have quite the game. Unfortunately, we don’t see the Nets being able to pull this one off on the road.

Phoenix Suns: Injuries won’t hold them back

This game is the tale of two opposites as the Phoenix Suns are winning despite injuries. They’ve lost Deandre Ayton and Jae Crowder to injuries, two of their best interior players.

However, Devin Booker and Chris Paul have taken over, giving the Suns everything they have. On average, the Suns put up 112.86 points per game. This offense ranks No.3 in the entire NBA.

Facing the Nets with all of these injuries should be easy work for this Suns team. Even the spread, which is slightly large, shouldn’t be trouble for Phoenix.

The Suns have a 3-7 record against Brooklyn in their last ten meetings; that’ll change today. With Devin Booker averaging 25.1 points per game, the Nets are in trouble. Now, let’s take a look at the best pick for this one.

Our pick for the Brooklyn Nets at Phoenix Suns

After looking at both of these teams, the choice is quite clear. Brooklyn doesn’t have enough depth to keep them above water with Harden and Durant out.

The measly seven-point spread also doesn’t give them enough of a boost. As they head out to Phoenix, one thing is clear; they won’t cover this spread. Especially since they’ve gone 5-12 ATS in their last 17.

Taking the Phoenix Suns in this game is your best bet. We’d also consider taking the under here since the total has gone under in five of their last seven. The Suns should be able to easily win this game at home and cover the spread on Tuesday.

DunkelIndex Free Pick: Phoenix Suns -7, UNDER

Prop Pick

Brooklyn (-110) UNDER 109.5 Points

Phoenix is allowing 105.0 points per game on defense, which ranks No. 7 in the league. The Suns allow the same number of points per game at home, which ranks No. 8.  Scores have gone UNDER in five of the Suns’ last seven games overall.

With Dunkel predicting Phoenix win by the score of 117-105, take the Nets (-110) to go UNDER their Vegas team total of 109.5 points against the Suns.

Devin Booker (-108) UNDER 30.5 Points

Booker scored 30 against the Nets in their first matchup this season and has averaged 20.9 against Brooklyn for his career. At home this season he's averaging 22.7 ppg, well below the line of 30.5. We expect these trends to hold tonight, and project Booker to score under the 30.5 point total.
