Week 3 of the college football season has some big games scheduled, including a game between the BYU Cougars and the Oregon Ducks. BYU is looking for a second-straight Top 25 win, and Oregon is trying to continue to get back on track.

Oregon suffered a 49-3 loss to Georgia in the season opener, and that was a pretty clear setback. The Ducks bounced back with a blowout win in Week 2, but this game will show just how far they have come.

Cougars Playing Some Defense
The BYU Cougars have the potential to be an explosive offense, but they have been without two stars to begin the season. BYU is still scoring 38 points per game, but they have been winning games on the defensive end.
Quarterback Jaren Hall has thrown for 522 yards in two games, and running back Lopini Katoa has been coming up with some big runs. The Cougars don’t want to get into a shootout with the Ducks, though, especially in Oregon.
BYU has been dominant on the defensive end through two weeks, especially against Baylor. If the Cougars are going to pull off this upset, then it will have to be won on defense.
Oregon Wants to Play Fast
Oregon comes into this game scoring 36.5 points per game, but they have also allowed 31.5 points per contest. The Ducks have had two very different results, but they continue to try and speed up the tempo when given the chance.
The Oregon offensive numbers are a bit inflated after scoring 70 points in Week 2 against an overmatched Eastern Washington team. If the Ducks are going to prove that they are back, then they have to find a way to get stops.
Oregon was no match for the Georgia offense in Week 1, and that could be a problem in this matchup as well. Playing fast is a fine strategy, but Oregon needs to find a way to keep the defense off of the field.
BYU Beats the Ducks
BYU might be coming into this game a little banged up, but they have already proven that they can win a big game with some injured stars. The rushing attack from BYU is going to slow down the tempo in this game, and that style of play is going to frustrate the Ducks in this game.
Oregon was able to respond in Week 2, but that defense has some serious flaws that will be exposed in this game. The Ducks can’t afford another loss in Week 3, but they just aren’t good enough to keep it from happening.
