College football is no longer only played on Saturday, and there is an interesting matchup set to take place in El Paso, Texas, on Friday night. The UTEP Miners host the Boise State Broncos as both teams will get the chance to play in front of a bigger national audience.
Boise State enters Week 4 with a record of 2-1, and the Broncos always seem to be a team that is hovering in or around the Top 25. This Boise State team suffered a loss in Week 1 to Oregon State but has since rattled off two straight wins.
UTEP has not been as fortunate this season as they are just 1-3 on the season. The Miners have faced a pretty challenging schedule up to this point, and things aren’t going to be any easier on Friday night.

Broncos Looking For More Offense
The Boise State Broncos might be 2-1 on the year, but they have to find a way to start scoring more points. Boise State is averaging just 318 yards of total offense, and the passing attack just hasn’t been there for much of the season.
Quarterback Hank Bachmeier has thrown for just 404 total yards through three games, and he also has three interceptions. Boise State has been able to run the ball effectively, but finding more balance on offense is going to be a big key moving forward.
The Boise State defense has been impressive up to this point, as they are holding opponents to just 18 points per game. The Broncos shouldn’t have trouble getting stops, but at some point, this team has to be more explosive.
Miners a Mess on Defense
The UTEP Miners have given up 29 points per game this season, and that is the biggest reason that they are just 2-1. UTEP has been especially bad against the run, as they are allowing 199 rushing yards per game.
Not only have the Miners not been getting stops, but they are scoring just 14 points per game. UTEP has hit on some big plays throughout the year, but they just haven’t been able to find a consistent attack.
Running the football effectively in this game would help UTEP slow the game down and also give that defense a chance to breathe.
Boise State Blasts UTEP in Week 4
UTEP has struggled to be competitive against Boise State in past matchups, and it’s hard to see this game playing out any differently. The stats on paper tend to favor Boise State in a pretty big way, and they have an offense that is ready to take off.
This UTEP team is definitely battle-tested, but they just haven’t been able to pass those tests up to this point. The Miners don’t have enough offense to keep up, and that defense is going to get toasted by some big plays in the secondary.
