Boise State Broncos at Brigham Young Cougars Betting Preview
07 October 2021

The BYU Cougars host the Boise State Broncos on Saturday afternoon in a huge college football showdown in Week 6. Both teams have spent the last decade inside of the Top 25, and this matchup should produce a terrific college football game.
Boise State has actually struggled so far in 2021, but this team is still extremely talented. The Broncos suffered a 41-31 loss to Nevada in Week 5, but they will be looking to get back on track with a huge upset win.
BYU is a perfect 5-0 on the year, and they have already beaten a pair of Top 25 teams. The Cougars are now all the way up to number 10 in the most recent AP Poll, but they have their sights set on even bigger goals.
The BYU Cougars are 4.5-point favorites over the Boise State Broncos in this college football game.
Boise State Needs to Run
Boise State is rushing for just 78.6 yards per game this season, and they are going to have to find a way to run the ball better if they want to win this game. The Broncos are scoring over 32 points per game, but they just don’t have enough balance on that side of the ball.
Quarterback Hank Bachmeier has thrown for over 1,500 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, but there is a ton of pressure on him to deliver. The BYU Cougars are going to give up some big plays, but they will also come after Bachmeier without a rushing attack.
The Broncos will need some defense of its own in Week 6 after giving up 41 points to Nevada last weekend. Boise State can’t afford for this game to turn into a shootout, or they might not be able to keep up.
Cougars Controlling Opposing Offenses
The BYU Cougars are holding opponents to just 19.4 points per game this season, and that unit has allowed them to jump out to a perfect 5-0 start. The secondary of BYU will be tested on Saturday afternoon, but getting pressure on the Boise State QB could make things easier.
BYU doesn’t score as many points per game as Boise State, but they are a more balanced attack. The Cougars have racked up over 400 yards per game this season, and they will test the Boise State defense in a number of ways.
Running back Tyler Allgeier is the best offensive player for BYU, leading the way with 569 yards and seven touchdowns. If BYU is able to get the run game going, then they will be tough to stop.
Boise State Beats BYU
Both of these teams are comfortable playing in big games, and this should be one of the best matchups of the entire weekend. Even though both teams have been solid on defense to begin the season, look for this game to feature plenty of big plays and lots of scoring.
Boise State has not been running the ball well this season, but they won’t be afraid to take some deep shots. BYU has given up some plays in the secondary, and that is going to be an issue in this one.
BYU has had a terrific start to the season, but it all comes crashing down on Saturday. Take the upset in this game and bet on the Boise State Broncos moneyline as they are able to pick up a victory over the BYU Cougars on Saturday.
