Belt Tightening

23 April 2018

With pitch counts seemingly foremost on every manager's mind, the record set yesterday by the Giants' Brandon Belt would make any sabermetrician giddy. In the first inning of the Giants game against the Angels, Belt produced a 21-pitch at-bat that included fouling off 16 two-strike pitches. Never mind that Belt finally lined out, the pitch count broke the record by 1 set in 1998 for most pitches in a single at-bat. The SF first baseman did later homer in the game as the Giants came away with a 4-2 victory. Belt will bring his new record into AT&T Park tonight as the Giants open a series against the Nationals and you can get our pick for this game and the full MLB schedule by clicking on the Baseball icon above.
