Baylor Bears at Texas Longhorns Betting Preview

02 February 2021

The No. 2 Baylor Bears look to stay perfect on the season when they visit the No. 6 Texas Longhorns for a Big 12 showdown on Tuesday night.

The No. 6 Texas Longhorns host the No. 2 Baylor Bears on Tuesday night in a key Big 12 Conference matchup and a battle of Top 10 teams. Both teams are considered Final Four candidates this season, and this should be one of the best showdowns of the year.

Baylor is a perfect 16-0 this season, and it has simply dominated opponents all season long. The Bears are outscoring opponents by over 25 points per game, and few teams have been able to slow them down.

Texas is 11-3 overall and 5-2 so far in conference play. The Longhorns are currently sitting in second place in the Big 12 and are likely the only team that has a chance to catch the Bears.

Baylor is a 5.5-point road favorite over Texas on Tuesday night.

Baylor Does it All Well

The Bears simply don’t have a weakness on their roster this season, and it could land them in the Final Four later in March. Baylor is averaging over 87 points per game while giving up just 62 points per contest.

Jared Butler leads the Bears with 16.8 points per game, and he is a strong candidate to be an All-American this season. Baylor has three other guards averaging at least 10 points per game, and all four players are shooting better than 37 percent from the three-point line.

The Bears are also relentless on the defensive end, and that pressure continues to wear down opponents. Texas could give the Baylor defense some problems, but the Bears have yet to find a team that they couldn’t stop.

Texas Needs to Make Shots

The Longhorns suffered a one-point loss to Oklahoma in their most recent game, but the team was missing a number of key players and head coach Shaka Smart. Texas should have a full complement of players for this game, but this will be a tough challenge.

If Texas is going to pull off this upset, then it must shoot the ball well from the three-point line. Texas is shooting better than 34 percent from three, and the Baylor defense will force the Longhorns to take some tough shots in this game.

Texas is also led by a trio of guards who have combined for more than 41 points per game this season. Matt Coleman III has poured in 13.1 points and dished out 4.1 assists per game, and he needs to lead the offense in this game.

Baylor Blows Out Texas

Texas has had a terrific season up to this point, but it is dealing with some adversity due to COVID-19. The Longhorns have what it takes to give Baylor a game under normal circumstances, but that isn’t the case on Tuesday night.

Baylor has been on a mission all season long, and it is incredibly focused. The Bears are simply not messing around, and they just have too many pieces to suffer an off-night.

Don’t expect this to be a close game for long as Baylor will take control early and then cruise to victory. Bet the Baylor Bears -5.5 over the Texas Longhorns in this Big 12 Conference showdown.
