The NASCAR Cup Series had somewhat of a ‘finally’ moment last week with Chase Elliott taking the checkered flag at the Yellawood 500 in Talladega. Elliott was the first playoff driver to get a win this postseason - and we’re five races in.
Hold off on NASCAR being back to normal just a minute, though, as now the series heads to the Charlotte Motor Speedway road course for the Bank of America ROVAL 400. Things can get pretty dicey at the ‘road oval’ on the infield at Charlotte but let’s see who the numbers like this weekend.

Denny Hamlin (230.353)
Denny Hamlin is in fourth in the Cup Series playoff standings, but he’s been arguably the most consistent driver these whole playoffs. What you like about taking Hamlin in Bank of America ROVAL 400 betting is at least he’s going to give you a chance - finishing 2nd, 2nd, 9th, 10th, and 5th in the last five events.
Hamlin had a great showing at the ‘road oval’ last season, with his 25 laps led the second most behind William Byron’s 30. Hamlin ended up finishing in fifth, which was his best appearance in four tries at the Charlotte road course.
Kyle Larson (232.630)
Kyle Larson tries to defend his 2021 ROVAL 400 win, picking up the checkered flag last year despite leading just eight laps. Larson seems on solid footing, currently in 6th in the playoffs, but he still needs a solid performance to stay in the round of eight.
A.J. Allmendinger (232.905)
A.J. Allmendinger is pulling double duty this weekend as the even money odds on favorite to win the Xfinity road course race. Allmendinger is a road course guru, and he has some added incentive in the Cup Series race after it was announced that he’d be returning to the circuit full-time next year, the first time since 2018. Allmendinger had engine problems here last season and wound up 38th, so he’s anxious for a rebound.
Erik Jones (233.230)
Erik Jones is a somewhat surprising top-five play from the Index this week, even though he already has a win these playoffs at Darlington. Jones has finished in sixth at Texas and Talladega in the last two races, so he’s still running hard despite not being a playoff driver. Jones finished in 3rd here in 2020.
Prop Picks
Top 5 Finish: Tyler Reddick (-125)
Before Chase Elliott’s win at Talladega last Sunday, Tyler Reddick’s victory at Texas was the most ‘normal’ of this postseason. The first races of the playoffs went to Erik Jones, Bubba Wallace, and Chris Buescher - all long shots on the NASCAR odds and non-playoff drivers.
Interestingly enough, Reddick’s win at Texas came the week after he was eliminated from the postseason and just a few days after it was announced he’d be losing the #8 car to Kyle Busch next season. Reddick followed up the Texas win with a 28th at Talladega but still has value for the ROVAL 400 after being the runner-up here last year.
