Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat Betting Preview/Prop Pick

14 January 2022

Friday, January 14th Atlanta Hawks @ Miami Heat

Two Eastern Conference teams are set to face off for their second straight game. The Atlanta Hawks, who played the Heat at home just a few days ago, now will travel to Miami.

The loss dealt to the Hawks by the Heat on Wednesday was their third straight loss. They've fallen to a record of 17-23 and are 12th in the Eastern Conference. They also just lost Cam Reddish.

The Miami Heat have worked their way to the second-place spot in the Eastern Conference. Following closely behind the Chicago Bulls, they're well on their way to taking over the conference.

This next game against the Hawks could be exactly what they need to push them past the Bulls. They come in as 5-point favorites here, should you take Miami over the Hawks?

Atlanta Hawks: Will the addition of Kevin Knox help the Hawks?

Since the trade deadline is here, plenty of teams made adjustments to their roster. A move the Hawks made was letting go of Cam Reddish and Solomon Hill for Kevin Knox. As far as the move goes, we aren't very happy with this one although we understand why it was made.

In this game against Miami, the defense will be paramount, especially with Tyler Herro going off lately.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Hawks need to select their shots better. They've gone 3-7 in their last ten games, and most of it is due to poor defense and bad shot selection. Miami has a lot of injuries Jimmy Butler and Markieff Morris, to name two.

The Hawks need to take down this banged-up Heat team led by Herro. It won't be long until it's too late to turn around their season.

Miami Heat: The Heat are only two games behind Chicago

The Hawks are the perfect match for the Heat right now. In their last game, the Heat throttled the Atlanta Hawks 115-91. Tyler Herro led the team in scoring that night, putting up 21 points and shooting 9 for 19.

Although his field-goal percentage isn't great, he stepped up when his team needed him. While Jimmy Butler is out, the Miami Heat will look to Herro to continue leading.

As we said before, the Hawks' defense has been very lackluster recently. Through their last ten games, four teams have scored over 130 points. The only real trouble for Miami is that they're missing multiple players that fill out the rotation.

Without certain guys coming off the bench, it'll be tough for the lineup to stay fresh. This is where we see the Hawks being able to capitalize.

Our pick for the Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat

The Atlanta Hawks are desperately in need of a win, especially in the Eastern Conference. Their 3-7 record in the last ten games is atrocious for a team that was once considered playoff-bound.

They haven't been great against the spread either this year; 15-25 is their ATS record. However, with the injuries to Miami's lineup, we'll take them here.

Some might think these injuries won't stop Miami from rolling over Atlanta. The truth is, it'll cause Miami to slow down at certain points, so their starters don't get tired. With no Bam Adebayo, Victor Oladipo, and potentially no Jimmy Butler, the Hawks are a better pick.

They might not win the game, but they should be able to cover the spread.

Prop Pick

Trae Young (-105) OVER 26.5 Points

Young has been in a mini-slump while scoring just 34 points over the last two games, including only 15 against the Heat on Wednesday in a 115-91 loss. Prior to that, he had been the model of consistency, averaging 30.5 points in the month of December and 40.5 during the first two games of January, including 56 against Portland.

With Dunkel predicting more scoring out of Atlanta tonight in a 109-108 Heat win, take Young (-105) to bounce back and finish OVER his Vegas point total of 26.5 points.
