Atlanta Braves at San Diego Padres Betting Preview/Prop Picks

17 April 2022

Sunday Night Baseball heads to San Diego as the Padres host the Atlanta Braves to wrap up the weekend. Atlanta has won the last two games over San Diego after the Padres won the series opener.

The Braves have improved their record to 5-5 on the year after the slow start. Atlanta is the defending World Series champion, and they look like a team that can make a run yet again.

San Diego had a disappointing end to the 2021 season, and the Padres have attempted to reload for another run. The Padres have also gone 5-5 through their first ten games, but they are looking to change the momentum in this series.

The San Diego Padres are the moneyline favorites at -133 over the Atlanta Braves.

Braves Have Some Big Bats

The Atlanta Braves decided not to re-sign Freddie Freeman this offseason, and many wondered if that would hurt the offense. It hasn’t had a major impact through the first ten games as Atlanta has already belted 12 home runs.

Ozzie Albies looks like he is going to lead the team in 2022, and he is off to a fast start. Albies has belted four home runs already for the Braves, and first baseman Matt Olson leads the team with a .412 batting average.

Bryce Elder will make his second start of the season on Sunday night. Elder went 5.2 innings in his first start and gave up just three runs in picking up a win.

Darvish Needs to Deliver

Yu Darvish will be on the mound for the Padres in the series finale, and San Diego needs their ace to step up. Darvish will be making his third start of the year, and he has posted an ERA of over 10 through his first two starts.

The offense for San Diego has been slowed down in the last two games, but they had a big night in the series opener. San Diego should have a great offense this season, especially once Fernando Tatis Jr. makes his return.

Jurickson Profar has hit three home runs and driven in nine runs to begin the year. Giving Yu Darvish some early run support could take some pressure off of their ace.

Braves Beat the Padres

After getting blown out in the series opener, the Braves have had little trouble with the Padres. Atlanta has gotten some great pitching in the last two games, and that will need to continue in the series finale.

Darvish is looking to turn things around for the Padres, but San Diego really needs to get the offense going. This should be the most competitive game of the series, and it should be a game that has plenty of offense.

The Padres want to get to a place where the Braves have been, but Atlanta will show them how far they still have to go. Bet the Atlanta Braves moneyline as they win this game by one run to pick up their third straight win over the San Diego Padres.

Prop Picks

 Atlanta (-110) OVER 3.5 Runs

The Braves are averaging 4.55 runs on offense, which ranks No. 10 in the league, while posting an OPS of .738, which also ranks No. 10. Scores have gone OVER in five of Atlanta’s last seven games versus NL West opponents.

With Dunkel predicting an Atlanta victory by the score of 6-5, take the Braves (-110) to finish OVER their Vegas team total of 3.5 runs against the Padres.

Matt Olson (+105) To Record A Run

Olson has collected seven runs, which ranks No. 1 on the Braves, while hitting .412 with a .556 OBP.  He added a run on three hits last night against the Padres.

With Dunkel predicting a Braves win with Atlanta going OVER their Vegas team total, take Olson (+105) to stay productive and score a run against San Diego.
