Atlanta Braves at Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Preview/Player Prop

31 August 2021

A pair of NL Playoff hopefuls meet up again on Tuesday night as the Los Angeles Dodgers host the Atlanta Braves. Los Angeles won the first game of this series by a score of 5-3 and are looking to beat the first-place team for the second straight night.

Atlanta has built up a 3.5-game lead in the NL East Division, but this team still has work to do. The Braves are 70-60 on the season, and that includes a terrific 37-28 record on the road.

Los Angeles is now 83-49 on the year, and they have gone an impressive 44-23 while playing at home. The Dodgers are still trying to track down the San Francisco Giants, but this team will be in the postseason.

On Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers are -178 over the Atlanta Braves.

Braves Putting it Together

The first half of the 2021 season did not go well for Atlanta, but this team has really started to turn things around in the second half of the year. Atlanta continues to be without Ronald Acuna Jr., but both the offense and pitching staff have stepped up in recent weeks.

Freddie Freeman now leads the team with 28 home runs, and he also has his batting average up near the .300 mark. Ozzie Albies leads the team with 86 RBIs, and he has been one of the more clutch hitters in baseball this season.

Atlanta will send veteran Charlie Morton to the mound in this game, and he just continues to deliver. Morton comes into this game with a record of 12-5 to go along with a very solid 3.60 earned run average.

Los Angeles Looking For Offense

The Dodgers are one of the best offensive teams in baseball this season, but they haven’t been doing much scoring of late. Los Angeles hasn’t scored more than five runs in any of their last five matchups, and that puts pressure on the rotation.

Max Muncy leads the team with 29 home runs and 77 RBIs, and Justin Turner has been terrific at the plate as well. There are still some holes in this offense, but they have a history of coming up big in the postseason.

Walker Buehler makes the start on Tuesday night, and he might be the NL Cy Young Award winner. Buehler has gone 13-2 with a 2.02 ERA this season, and this should be another dominating performance.

Dodgers Beat Braves Again

This is going to be a terrific pitching matchup, and runs are going to be at a premium on Tuesday night. It could take just one big hit to be the difference in this matchup, and Los Angeles appears to have the better offensive team.

Atlanta and Los Angeles are likely going to meet up in the postseason at some point, and this game will definitely have a postseason feel. Playing in Los Angeles gives the Dodgers just a slight edge, and that is all that will be needed on Tuesday night.

Bet the Los Angeles Dodgers -178 over the Atlanta Braves as the home team wins for the second straight night.

Player Prop

Charlie Morton (-280) 5+ Strikeouts

Morton just seems to get better with age and at 37 years old, the veteran right-hander is having one of his best seasons. His 12 wins, 3.60 ERA and 173 strikeouts all lead the Braves.

And the summer doesn’t seem to be slowing him down. The 38 Ks he’s collected so far in August is higher than any of the previous month’s totals. In his last outing against the red hot Yankees last Tuesday, he managed to pick up 9 Ks in just 5 innings of work.

In fact, Morton hasn’t picked up less than 6 Ks since registering only 5 against the Mets back on July 27. That’s a span of five starts and 29 innings.

With Atlanta’s staff needing a strong performance after getting roughed up by the Dodgers last night, we’ll go with Morton (-280) to keep the Braves in the game and collect over 5Ks tonight.
