Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Florida Gators Betting Preview

19 December 2020

The SEC Championship Game will feature the Alabama Crimson Tide taking on the Florida Gators at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Alabama comes into this game with a perfect 10-0 record, while Florida is 8-2 on the season.

The Crimson Tide are currently the top-ranked team in the College Football Playoff rankings, while Florida has slid of late. Alabama has been blowing teams out this season, and Florida just suffered a massive upset loss to LSU in its last time out.

The Alabama Crimson Tide are 17.0-point favorites over the Florida Gators in the SEC Championship Game.

Crimson Tide Rolling on Offense

Alabama is averaging 49.5 points per game this season, and they are loaded with talent on that side of the ball. The Crimson Tide has traditionally been a strong defensive team, but they are nearly impossible to beat with this offense.

Quarterback Mac Jones has thrown for 3,321 yards and 27 touchdowns this season, and he has emerged as a real favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. Wide receiver DeVonta Smith leads the team with 1,327 receiving yards and also has 15 touchdown receptions.

As if the passing attack wasn't good enough, running back Najee Harris has racked up 1,084 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns this season. Stopping the Crimson Tide is no easy task.

The defense doesn't get any publicity, but that unit is allowing just 16.8 points per game this season and can take over games in their own right.

Gators Need Some 'D'

If the Florida Gators are going to pull off this upset on Saturday night, then the defense must step up. Florida is allowing 26 points per game and just gave up 37 points to the LSU Tigers in their most recent game.

Quarterback Kyle Trask has been able to make up for his defense for much of the season, and he is putting up huge numbers in the passing game. Trask has thrown for 3,717 yards and 40 touchdowns this season, and the Gators have the best passing attack in the country.

The health of tight end Kyle Pitts is also a question mark coming into this game, and the Gators need him on the field. Pitts is averaging close to 18 yards per reception and leads the team with 11 touchdown receptions.

Florida will have to win this game on offense if they want to win the SEC.

Florida Battles But Alabama Prevails

The Crimson Tide have had almost no challenges all season long, but Florida does have what it takes to keep this game close. Florida might have two losses on the season, but that offense is hard to ignore.

Eventually, Alabama will find a way to get enough stops to take control of this game, but it's not going to be a blowout. Look for Florida to keep this game within two touchdowns, but they aren't good enough to pull off the upset.

The Alabama Crimson Tide will remain undefeated and win the SEC Championship, but the bet is on Florida. Take the 17.5 points and bet on the Gators on Saturday night.
