There are a couple of big games on the college football schedule in Week 2, including a matchup between two future SEC Conference rivals. The Alabama Crimson Tide visit the Texas Longhorns, and there are plenty of big storylines surrounding this matchup.
Alabama entered 2022 as the number one team in the country, and they are big betting favorites to win the College Football Playoff. The Crimson Tide looked the part in Week 1 as they rolled to a 55-0 win over Utah State.
Texas is one of the top picks to win the Big 12 Conference but was not in the preseason poll. The Longhorns are also 1-0, and they are set to move to the SEC Conference in a couple of years with Oklahoma.
The Alabama Crimson Tide are 20-point betting favorites over the Texas Longhorns in Week 2.
No Stopping the Tide
Alabama head coach Nick Saban used to win games with his defense, but that isn’t always the case anymore. The Crimson Tide are loaded with offensive talent, and they are capable of lighting up the scoreboard.
Quarterback Bryce Young won the Heisman Trophy last year, and he threw five touchdown passes in Week 1 while also rushing for 100 yards. Alabama can beat teams through the air and on the ground, making them difficult to defend.
The Crimson Tide defense often gets overlooked, but they have yet to allow a point this season. That unit will be looking to force some turnovers and make Texas play a bit scared in this matchup.
Texas Needs to Run
There is a path for Texas to win this football game, and it all starts with running the football effectively with Bijan Robinson. Robinson is one of the better running backs in the country, and he averaged 7.1 yards per carry in Week 1.
Quarterback Quinn Ewers is also capable of putting up some big numbers at the quarterback position, but he will face a tough Alabama secondary. Ewers had two touchdown passes in Week 1 but also had a turnover in that game.
The Texas defense is not going to be able to shut down the Crimson Tide, but it just needs to slow things down. Texas has to find a way to put some pressure on Bryce Young, or he will pick them apart.
Tide Roll Over Longhorns
There is no doubt that Texas will be excited to play this game in Week 2, but that excitement will go away quickly. Even if Texas is able to play their best football game of the season, it’s not going to be enough to keep up with Alabama.
The Crimson Tide are loaded at every single position, and Bryce Young just continues to be unstoppable. Alabama will have very little resistance from the Texas defense, and there is a great chance that this game is going to get away from them in a hurry.
Bet the Alabama Crimson Tide -20.0 over the Texas Longhorns as they pick up a win by four touchdowns in this matchup.
Prop Pick
Alabama (-105) OVER 41.5 Points
Alabama averaged 39.3 points per game on offense last season, which ranked No. 5 in FBS. Texas allowed 31.1 points per game on defense last season, which ranked No. 93 in FBS. Scores have gone OVER in seven of the Crimson Tide’s last 10 non-conference games.
With Dunkel predicting an Alabama win by the score of 47-19, take the Crimson Tide (-105) to finish OVER their Vegas team total of 41.5 points against the Longhorns.
