Picking the favorite or best-ranked golfer has not proven well in the past. Last year’s finale featured a playoff from 32nd ranked Billy Horschel (winner), and 30th ranked Scottie Scheffler.

Scottie Scheffler (-27.052) and Patrick Cantlay (-29.455) are two interesting picks to consider. Scheffler lost in the final last year but has quickly risen to the top this season and looks like a dominant threat compared to last season.

Despite saying not to pick the favorites or rank numbers, Jon Rahm (-26.262) has the best chance to win in his group to advance in his pod. After that, he can settle the score during the weekend play. However, he is paired with Patrick Reed, Cameron Young, and Sebastian Munoz, that might be able to go toe-to-toe with him.
Tyrrell Hatton (-28.074) is one of the most competitive players in the game. He is up against Daniel Berger, Si Woo Kim, and Christiaan Bezuidenhout. Berger might give him the most trouble, especially since the two have a similar competitive spirit, but he should advance to the weekend.
Potential Winning Pick
Justin Thomas is arguably the most talented golfer in his group (Kevin Kisner, Marc Leishman, Luke List) and has the biggest chip on his shoulder. You can tell he wants to win, especially with just a few strokes back in the Valspar Championship to nearly winning it.
Thomas has several top 10 finishes this season and has amassed excellent strokes gained from tee to green in several events this year. With his recent momentum, he is a threat to anyone and offers one of the best opportunities to win.
