The Miami Hurricanes were hoping to rise back to prominence under first-year head coach Manny Diaz, but instead find themselves struggling to just finish above .500 as they enter today's Independence Bowl. The Hurricnaes (6-6) finished the regular season with a pair of losses to lower-rated teams as they fell to Florida International (30-24) and Duke (24-14). It doesn't look to get easier today as the Canes face the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (9-3), who are looking to record their first 10-win season since 1984. In the NBA, the Portland Trail Blazers (14-17) are struggling to get back to relevance in the Western Conference. Terry Stotts' team had won four straight before stumbling against New Orleans, 102-94, on Monday. Damian Lillard had an uncharacteristically bad shooting night as he missed all 10 of his three-point attempts. Lillard and the Trail Blazers will try to get back into the win column tonight as they head to Utah to face the Jazz (18-12), who had their own five-game winning streak halted in Miami on Monday.
