After skating by on a schedule that included only two winning teams in the first 13 weeks, the Buffalo Bills (9-4) are getting a taste of tougher competition that started with their 24-17 loss to Baltimore last week and continues with a trip tonight to Pittsburgh before wrapping up next week at New England. The Steelers (8-5) continue to overcome injuries with three straight victories and seven in their last eight games. The Charlotte Hornets (12-16) have won three straight and held the Chicago Bulls to an NBA-low 73 points in their last victory on Friday. In college hoops, the UCF Knights (7-2) literally had a huge void to fill when they lost 7-6 center Tacko Fall to the NBA after last season. In all, the Knights lost 11 players from last year's team, but have responded with four straight wins by an average of 15 points. Today, UCF will host the Sacred Heart Pioneers (6-4), who are expected to compete for the Northeast Conference crown and come in having won six of their last seven. The Philadelphia Flyers (17-10-5) are dealing with a rash of injuries that expanded yesterday when Tyler Pitlick and Scott Laughton were sidelined during the Flyers 4-1 loss at Minnesota. The injury bug has certainly affected the Flyers offensively as they've now gone 0-f0r-15 in power plays for the last six games.
