In the NBA, the Boston Celtics (7-1) have been off to a hot start, but have to deal with some adversity for the first time as forward Gordon Hayward looks to be out for an extended period of time after breaking his hand against San Antonio on Saturday night. Hayward had been playing at a high level (20.3 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 4.6 apg), which will make it challenging for Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum and Marcus Smart to pick up the slack with more minutes. The Celts will see how they adapt beginning tonight as they host the Dallas Mavericks (6-3), who are coming off a 138-122 win at Memphis on Friday. Tip off is 7:30 p.m. EST at TD Garden. On the college hardwood, the DePaul Blue Demons are off to a 3-0 start following their 70-59 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday night. But the level of competition will step up tonight as they travel to Iowa to face the Hawkeyes (1-0) as part of the Gavitt Tip Off Games. Tip off is 8:00 p.m. EST at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. And its a light schedule in the NHL with only a pair of games, including the red-hot Washington Capitals (13-2-3) hosting the Arizona Coyotes (9-6-2). Washington is 10-0-1 in its last 11 games and extended its winning streak to six straight with a 5-2 victory over Vegas on Saturday night. After a fast start, the Coyotes have hit a rough patch of three straight losses with the last coming against Minnesota at home on Saturday.
