The Pittsburgh Steelers (1-4, No. 20 in the Dunkel Index) have been snakebit when it comes to the health of their QBs this season. First long-time starter Ben Roethlisberger went down for the season with an elbow injury and now backup QB Mason Rudolph is out after suffering a concussion in last week's game against the Ravens. In steps undrafted free agent Devlin Hodges, who will be making his first NFL start tonight. He'll be going up against Philip Rivers, who will be making his 214th straight start. But it's not clear right now that Rivers and the LA Chargers (2-3, No. 19) are in a position to take advantage of the QB mismatch. Anthony Lynn's team is coming off its worst performance of the season in a 20-13 loss to the previously winless Broncos while Rivers failed to direct a TD drive for just the eighth time in his career. The road teams have had their way thus far in the MLB league championship series with both the Nationals and Yankees winning yesterday. While the NL has the day off, the Houston Astros will see if they can break through with a home victory tonight in Game 2 of the ALCS. Justin Verlander (22-7, 2.66) will get the start for the Astros, while the Yanks will send James Paxton (15-6, 3.88) to the mound. First pitch is 8:08 p.m. EST at Minute Maid Park. The Pittsburgh Penguins (3-2-0) have been hit with injuries in the early going, but got nice contributions last night from recent AHL call-ups Joe Blandisi, Sam Lafferty and Adam Johnson, who combined for three goals and six points in the Penguins 7-4 win at Minnesota. Pittsburgh will stay on the road tonight to face the Winnipeg Jets (4-2-0), who return home to open a six-game homestand following last night's 3-2 overtime win in Chicago. The NBA preseason continues with five games on the schedule, including the defending champion Toronto Raptors (1-1) continuing their tune-up for the regular season as they host the Chicago Bulls (0-3). The Raptors split their two games with the Rockets in Japan, while the Bulls are still looking for their first victory of the preseason following losses to Milwaukee, New Orleans and Indiana. And Week 7 of college football is in the books with the big upset coming at Georgia yesterday where the South Carolina Gamecocks knocked off the Bulldogs, 20-17, in double overtime. The loss drops Georgia out of the latest Dunkel Index Top 5, with Oklahoma taking over Georgia's previous No. 4 spot and Penn State moving up to No. 5 after the Nittany Lions 17-12 win at Iowa.
