Week 2 in the NFL has not been kind to QBs like Drew Brees and Ben Roethlisberger were both forced from their games yesterday with injuries. Perhaps an omen of things to come came earlier in the week when it was reported that Jets QB Sam Darnold would be sidelined indefinitely with mononucleosis. The impact on the Vegas line for tonight's game against the Cleveland Browns was immediate with the Browns jumping from a 2 1/2-point favorite all the way up to 7. But while Cleveland has a healthy QB in Baker Mayfield, the team can't be feeling too good after an expected showcase in front of their home fans last weekend turned into a 43-13 debacle against the Titans. While we're still a few weeks away from the start of the MLB playoffs, the upcoming series between the Washington Nationals and St. Louis Cardinals will have all the feel of a postseason matchup. The Cards (83-66) sit in first place in the NL Central but are just two games up on the Chicago Cubs. Likewise, the Nats (82-66) have the Cubs breathing down their necks in the NL wild-card chase with just a 1 1/2-game lead. Tonight's series opener in St. Louis will feature Stephen Strasburg (17-6, 3.49) on the mound for Washington, while Dakota Hudson (15-7, 3.38) gets the start for the Cardinals. In the latest Dunkel college football rankings, there was no major movement in the Top 5 as Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia and Oklahoma all won comfortably.
