It's safe to say that Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide have been anxiously waiting for all off-season to erase the memory of their 44-16 drubbing at the hands of Clemson in last year's championship game. They can begin that process this afternoon as the Crimson Tide open their season against the Duke Blue Devils in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta. Saban has the benefit of returning a number of stars from last year's squad, including QB Tua Tagovailoa and WRs Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs. On the diamond, the Oakland A's continued to be a thorn in the side of the NY Yankees as they took last night's series opener, 8-2, at Yankee Stadium. Combined with a recent three-game sweep over the Yanks (88-48) out in Oakland, the A's have yet to drop a game to New York this season. It's all been part of another second-half surge for the A's (78-56), who are 11-4 in their last 15 games and 28-15 since the All-Star break. The hottest team in the WNBA -- the Washington Mystics (22-8) -- take the court tonight as they head to Dallas to face the Wings (10-20).
