The Redbirds stayed red-hot last night as St. Louis opened a three-game set against the Brewers with a 12-2 thumping. It was the Cardinals eighth win in nine games and 14th in their last 17 to move them three games up on the Cubs in the NL Central. The loss dropped Milwaukee (67-64), which has lost five of its last eight games, 5 1/2 games back of St. Louis (71-58). The two teams will continue their series tonight at Miller Park with the Cards sending right-hander Miles Mikolas (7-13, 4.43) to the mound against the Brewers' right-hander Adrian Houser (6-5, 3.62).
