The 2019 college football season kicks off tonight in Orlando where the Miami Hurricanes and Florida Gators will renew their heated rivalry. The two teams haven't played each other since 2013 and the Hurricanes come in having won seven of the last eight meetings. But they finished 2018 headed in opposite directions. The Gators clicked down the stretch of head coach Dan Mullen's first year and finished 10-3 after lopsided wins against Florida State and Michigan, the latter coming in the Peach Bowl. The Hurricanes came into 2018 with high expectations but struggled to a 7-6 record that was capped off by a 35-3 loss to Wisconsin in the Pinstripe Bowl and the subsequent retirement of head coach Mark Richt. Former Canes defensive coordinator Manny Diaz takes over the program and faces a big test right out of the gate. There's also a lot at stake as a pair of MLB rivals meet when the Oakland A's (74-53) host the San Francisco Giants (63-65) at Oakland Coliseum. The A's are fighting for a wild card in the AL and are currently tied with Cleveland for the final spot just a half-game behind Tampa Bay. The Giants have cooled off considerably since a 10-1 stretch in mid-July and are now six games out in the NL wild card with four teams ahead of them. Week 3 of the NFL preseason continues with seven games on the schedule, including a matchup of two of the brightest young QBs in the league with Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes facing San Francisco's Jimmy Garoppolo. Mahomes has looked solid in two brief appearances for the Chiefs (1-1), completing 6-of-9 passes for 77 yards. Garoppolo did not look as sharp as he tries to bounce back last year's season-ending injury. Last week he finished with a QB rating of zero as he completed just 1-of-6 passes for no yards and an INT.
