Mike Leake first made a name for himself as a star pitcher for the Arizona State Sun Devils, earning the eighth pick overall in the 2009 MLB draft. Ten years after that fact, Leake will make his debut tonight as the starting pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Acquired from Seattle just before the trade deadline, Leake (9-8, 4.27) will go up against Philadelphia's Jake Arrieta (8-8, 4.44) at Chase Field as the D-backs and Phillies continue their series. Last night, Philadelphia (59-53) took the series opener, 7-3, to move into a tie with Washington for the top Wild Card spot in the NL, while Arizona (56-57) dropped 3 1/2 games back.
