The St. Louis Cardinals continued their recent trend of strong pitching and timely hitting from slugger Paul Goldschmidt to take last night's series opener against the Chicago Cubs, 2-1. The win moved the Cardinals (57-49) into first place in the NL Central, a game ahead of the Cubs (56-50) and 1 1/2 ahead of the Brewers. St. Louis will try to continue that trend tonight as they play the second game of their set against Chicago at Busch Stadium. Miles Mikolas (7-10, 4.19) will get the start for the Redbirds, while the Cubs will go with Kyle Hendricks (7-8, 3.26) on the mound.
