The Carolina Hurricanes wrapped up the first round of the NHL playoffs last night with a dramatic 4-3 win over the defending champion Washington Capitals in double overtime. The Canes continued a trend that saw four of the top six teams in Dunkel's power rankings eliminated. Two of the upset specialists -- the Dallas Stars and Columbus Blue Jackets -- will be in action tonight against the St. Louis Blues and Boston Bruins, respectively, as the second round of the postseason gets underway. The San Antonio Spurs looked primed to pull off a series upset when they beat the Nuggets in Game 1 in Denver and came close in Game 2. Perhaps an early postseason preview will be on the diamond tonight as the Houston Astros (15-9) open a series at home against the Cleveland Indians (13-10). A pair of former UCLA teammates will be on the mound as Gerrit Cole (1-3, 5.22) gets the start for Houston against Cleveland's Trevor Bauer (2-1, 2.20).
