Virginia Cavaliers at Florida State Seminoles Betting Preview
15 February 2021
First place in the Atlantic Coast Conference will be on the line on Monday night when the Florida State Seminoles host the Virginia Cavaliers. Both of these teams are expected to make some major noise in March, and this could be a potential Final Four preview.
Virginia enters this game with an overall record of 15-3, and they have gone 11-1 in ACC action. The Cavaliers have now won four straight games since a loss to Virginia Tech, but they are facing a difficult portion of their schedule.
Florida State has now won six of their last seven games to move into second place in the ACC. The Seminoles are 7-2 in conference action and have gone 11-3 overall this season.
Florida State is a slim 1.5-point favorite over Virginia on Monday night.
Virginia Winning With Defense
The Virginia Cavaliers are once again one of the top defensive teams in the country, allowing just 58.8 points per game. The pack-line defense gives teams all sorts of trouble, but Florida State does have some athletes that could find some holes in that defense.
Virginia is scoring just 68 points per game, but they do remain extremely efficient on that end of the floor. The Cavaliers can really shoot the ball and are nearly impossible to beat when shooting well.
Forward Sam Hauser leads the team with 15.1 points per game, and he has brought a new dimension to this UVA team. Guard Kihei Clark leads the team with 4.6 assists per game, and he is the player that really sets things up for this offense.
Florida State is Deep
Florida State is scoring more than 79 points per game, and they are one of the deepest teams in the country. The Seminoles have six different players averaging at least seven points per game, and they will look to speed up the tempo in this game.
Guard M.J. Walker leads the team with 13.1 points per game, but he has gotten plenty of help. Florida State is shooting nearly 39 percent from deep, and that shooting will help stretch the Virginia defense.
The Seminoles are not as good defensively as the Cavaliers, but they are solid on that end of the floor. Don’t expect a ton of points in this matchup.
Seminoles Shock Cavaliers
Virginia continues to be the class of the Atlantic Coast Conference, but Florida State is not too far behind. This is not a perfect Cavaliers team, and Florida State actually has the advantage in overall talent in this matchup.
Even though Florida State is a slight favorite in this game, it is still a shock anytime Virginia loses a conference game. The Cavaliers will try to slow the pace down on Monday night, but Florida State is just too deep.
Look for the Seminoles to find enough offense in this matchup, and their depth will take control of this game in the second half.
Bet the Florida State Seminoles -1.5 over the Virginia Cavaliers in this ACC showdown.
