Stanley Cup Game One Betting Preview

NHL Previews

The Stanley Cup Finals begins on Monday night, and the Tampa Bay Lightning will host the Montreal Canadiens in Game One. Tampa Bay is a big favorite to win this entire series, and they are favorites to win Game One on home ice.

Montreal has been a massive underdog throughout the playoffs after picking up just 59 points during the regular season. The Canadiens stunned the Vegas Golden Knights in the semifinals and have some momentum heading into this matchup.

Tampa Bay is the defending champion, and having home-ice advantage should make them tough to beat in this game and series. The Lightning got past the New York Islanders in the semifinal round and have had little trouble in the postseason.

The Lightning are -199 on the money line in the first game of the Stanley Cup Finals on Monday night.

Price Must Be Right For Montreal

Montreal goaltender Carey Price has carried the Canadiens throughout the playoffs, and he will have to be on top of his game against Tampa Bay. Price has allowed 2.02 per game, and he has shut down some explosive offenses.

The Canadiens are not a team that scores many goals, but they have been great on special teams so far in the playoffs. Montreal will need to convert on the power play in this game and can’t take too many penalties.

Tyler Toffoli leads the Canadiens with five goals and nine assists, but this team has some balanced scoring. Montreal will need to find some offense to get past the Lightning.

Lightning are Deep and Experienced

Tampa Bay has 19 players in their lineup that played a role in winning the 2020 Stanley Cup. The Lightning won’t be afraid of the moment, which should help them get off to a great start in Game One.

Nikita Kucherov leads the Lightning with 22 assists and 27 points, and he will be a key in this series. Brayden Point has a team-high 14 goals, but this team has plenty of other scoring options.

The real star for the Lightning has been goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy. Vasilevskiy is allowing 1.99 goals per game and can completely shut down the Canadiens. He's posted four shutouts so far this postseason.

Tampa Bay Takes Game One

Tampa Bay has the better roster in this matchup, but that hasn’t mattered to Montreal throughout the postseason. The Canadiens have always been able to find a way to stay in games, and they have some serious momentum.

Both goaltenders have played exceptionally well in the postseason, and there shouldn’t be much scoring in this series. That will allow Montreal to stay in this game, but Tampa Bay has also shown the ability to win these games.

The Lightning are the better offensive team, and they will find a way to pick up a score late in the game. Bet the Tampa Bay Lightning -199 as they pick up a victory in the opener on Monday night to take a 1-0 series lead.
