St. Louis Cardinals at Milwaukee Brewers Betting Preview
20 September 2021
The St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers begin a series on Monday night at American Family Field. This is a series that has some big postseason implications, especially for the visiting Cardinals.
St. Louis has been one of the hottest teams in baseball over the last month of the season, and they are now in control of their own destiny in the playoff race. The Cardinals have now won eight straight games to improve to 79-69 on the year.
Milwaukee maintains a massive lead in the NL Central Division, and they have already punched their ticket to the postseason. The Brewers are just a few wins away from winning the division, and they could get to 100 wins.
The Milwaukee Brewers are the betting favorites in this matchup at -228 on the moneyline.
Peralta Pitching Well For Brewers
The Milwaukee Brewers have built up a massive lead in the NL Central Division on the strength of its starting pitching. Freddy Peralta will take the mound on Monday night, and he has been one of the best pitchers in the National League.
Peralta is 9-4 with a 2.57 ERA this season, but the Brewers won’t want to wear him down during the final starts of the season. The Brewers bullpen has some terrific arms as well, and that unit will be asked to protect an early lead if one occurs.
Avisail Garcia leads the Brewers with 27 home runs and 82 RBIs this season, but this team needs more thunder if they want to make a deep postseason run.
St. Louis Slugging of Late
The St. Louis Cardinals were not a great offensive team to begin the season, but they have slipped the script during this long winning streak. St. Louis is getting plenty of power, and it has been Dylan Carlson and Tyler O’Neill doing most of the slugging.
The pitching staff has also been stepping up over the last few weeks, but that could present a problem on Monday night. Jake Woodford is set to make this start, and he is just 2-3 with a 4.30 earned run average.
If the Cardinals are going to continue their winning streak by beating Milwaukee, then it might take a big effort from the offense.
Cardinals Continue to Win
The Cardinals have been red-hot of late, and they just continue to find ways to win baseball games. Facing Peralta is never an easy task, but this offense has been coming up with clutch hits nearly every game.
There is no love lost between the Cardinals and Brewers, and this should be an exciting series with plenty of fireworks. Milwaukee wants to keep playing well leading into the postseason, but there isn’t a ton of pressure on the Brewers at this time.
St. Louis needs to continue to win games, and that will give them a boost on Monday night. Forget about betting the moneyline on Monday night and take the St. Louis Cardinals -1.5 as they stay red-hot and win the series opener over Milwaukee.
