QBE Shootout Betting Preview
The PGA Tour will finish out the calendar year with the 32nd installment of the QBE Shootout in Naples, Fla., at the Tiburon Golf Club Gold Course starting Friday. This three-day tournament is an exciting 54-hole two-man event playing best ball consisting of 12 teams.
These 24 players are grouped into teams either by their current rankings or the final FedExCup standings by special exemption. For this event, the defending champions are together as a team, and the top 12 available PGA Tour players, with some special exemptions, are paired with their FedExCup Points.
Hot off the Masters, there are seven out of the 24 participants that finished inside the top 25 last month in the prestigious tournament. Needless to say, there is a lot of talent here.
Among the returning teams that are competing are the defending champions Rory Sabbatini and Kevin Tway. Another duo is Harris English and Matt Kuchar, who won at the Shootout in 2013 and 2016.
Another set of duos include Ryan Palmer with Harold Varner III and Billy Horschel with Brendon Todd. Both of these teams finished tied for third last year.
The Shootout format is as follows:
- First Round: Scramble
- Second Round: Modified Alternate Shot
- Third/Final Round: Four-ball
Looking at the last 24 rounds, Horschel and Lanto Griffin top this field when looking at strokes gained. When looking at successful duos in putting, the best combined team putting (in recent 24 rounds on the Tour) is English with Kuchar along with the likes of Horschel and Todd.
Individually, English comes in ranking the highest in this field with putting. Next is Todd and then Horschel.

- Kevin Na/Sean O'Hair -38.948
Potential Winning Pick: Harris English/Matt Kuchar (-31.347)
English and Kuchar will be returning for the first time since 2017. This also makes the sixth time they'll partner up for this event.
With excellent wins in 2013 and 2016, in addition to runner-up finishes in 2014 and 2015, they offer one of the most competitive duos out there. They are definitely one of the more significant pairings in recent years to dominate together.
These two also currently hold the tournament record for the largest margin of victory. This was in their first victory in 2013, which they claimed by seven strokes.
Overall, they are the team to beat, behind the defending champions, Sabbatini and Tway. But they have not been together since 2017, and they should bring back those previous successes, especially against other teams playing for the first time.
