Philadelphia 76ers at Brooklyn Nets Betting Preview

07 January 2021

Atlantic Division rivals will meet up in New York on Thursday night as the Brooklyn Nets host the Philadelphia 76ers. Both teams are expected to contend for the Eastern Conference championship this season, so this will be a great early-season matchup.

The 76ers have won five straight games, and they come into this game with a record of 7-1. Philadelphia has a new head coach in Doc Rivers, and this team appears to have things figured out this season.

Brooklyn is just 4-4 on the season, and things have not gone as smoothly as expected. The Nets have gone just 2-4 in their last six games, but picking up a win on Thursday night could help turn things around.

The Philadelphia 76ers are two-point favorites on the road over Brooklyn in this matchup.

Defense Dominant For Philly

The 76ers are loaded with offensive talent, but it has been the defense that has powered the team to a 7-1 start. The Sixers are holding teams to less than 102 points per game, although they did give up 136 points in their most recent win over Washington.

Philadelphia has a deep roster, but it relies on its starters to do most of the heavy lifting. There are five different players scoring in double-figures for the Sixers, and Shake Milton is the only reserve accomplishing that feat.

Joel Embiid has been the offensive star for Philadelphia this year, averaging 23.2 points and 12.3 rebounds per game this season. Tobias Harris has chipped in with 19.3 points per game, and he is having one of the best seasons of his career.

Nets Can Really Score

The Nets have two of the best offensive players in the NBA on their roster, and this offense can put up points in a hurry. Brooklyn is averaging 119.5 points per game this season, but it is also allowing more than 11 points per game.

Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving have combined for more than 55 points per game, and either player has the capability of taking over a game. Irving also leads the team with 6.1 assists, and he'll need to do more as Durant is sidelined due to COVID-19 protocols for the next few games.

Trying to find a way to stop Embiid will be an issue for Brooklyn in this matchup, and center Jarrett Allen will need to play a key role. The Nets will look to try to outscore Philadelphia to win this game.

Sixers Stay Red-Hot

There is no doubt that the Nets will be ready for the Sixers on Thursday night, but Brooklyn is still struggling to figure things out. Philadelphia is a great defensive team, and it should be able to slow down the Brooklyn offense.

These two teams will likely cross paths at some point in the Eastern Conference playoffs, and either team could reach the NBA Finals this season. This should be a great game on Thursday night, but it will be the road team that gets the win.

Bet the Philadelphia 76ers -2.0 over the Brooklyn Nets in this Atlantic Division showdown.
