NCAAM: Rutgers at Michigan State Betting Preview
The Big Ten Conference is loaded with Top 25 teams this season, and two of them are set to square off on Tuesday night. The No. 23 Michigan State Spartans will host the No. 15 Rutgers Scarlet Knights in a critical conference matchup at the Breslin Center.
Rutgers is off to a 7-2 start this season, but they are now just 3-2 in Big Ten Conference play. The Scarlet Knights have lost two of their last three games and are looking to get back on track.
Michigan State is just 1-3 so far in Big Ten Conference play, but they do have a bit of momentum. The Spartans picked up an 84-77 win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers in their most recent game.
The Spartans are 1.5-point favorites over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
Rutgers Can Make Shots
The Scarlet Knights are averaging 80 points per game this season, and three-point shooting has been a real strength for this team. There are four different starters for Rutgers shooting better than 40 percent from deep, and that has played a role in their hot start.
Forward Ron Harper Jr. leads the team with 22.1 points per game, and he is making nearly half of his three-point attempts. Harper is one of the best players in the Big Ten Conference, but Jacob Young and Montez Mathis have combined for more than 30 points per game in support.
The Scarlet Knights can also defend, and they just held an explosive Iowa Hawkeyes team to 77 points in a loss. There aren’t many teams in the country that play as hard as Rutgers.
Spartans Looking For Defense
You can usually count on the Michigan State Spartans to play great defense and dominate teams on the glass. That hasn’t been the case this season as the Spartans are allowing more than 75 points per game, and rebounding has been an issue.
Forward Aaron Henry has been the offensive star for the Spartans, leading the team with 13.4 points per game. Newcomer Joey Hauser has also had a solid season for Michigan State, averaging 12.3 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.
Michigan State has enough weapons to be solid on the offensive end of the floor, but this team must find a way to get some stops.
Rutgers Steals Road Win
It has been a rough start to Big Ten Conference play for the Spartans, and this will be another challenging game for Michigan State. No game in the Big Ten Conference is easy, but this Rutgers team plays extremely hard.
The Scarlet Knights are one of the best shooting teams in the country, and they should make a ton of shots in this game. Look for Rutgers to take control of this game early and then hang on for a victory.
The struggles will continue for Michigan State as they fall to just 1-4 in the Big Ten Conference.
Bet on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights to beat Michigan State outright in this game.
