Montreal Canadiens at Calgary Flames Betting Preview/Player Prop

NHL Previews

The Calgary Flames host the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night for another meeting between the rivals. It was Calgary that came away with a 4-2 win on Friday night, and they will be looking for a similar outcome.

Montreal has gone just 1-3 in their last four games, and this rough patch couldn’t be coming at a worse time. The Canadiens are currently in fourth place in the North with 49 points, but they still have some work to do.

Calgary is trying to track down Montreal for that fourth and final playoff spot but are still six points behind. The Flames have gone 4-2 in their last six games, but this is an absolute must-win on Saturday night.

The Calgary Flames are -117 over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.

Offense Missing For Montreal

Montreal is scoring 2.85 goals per game this season, but this team has struggled offensively during this rough patch. The Canadiens are scoring on the power play less than 19 percent of the time, and this needs to be corrected moving forward.

Tyler Toffoli leads the Canadiens with 23 goals and 34 total points, but the strength of this team is its depth. Montreal wants to speed up the tempo on Saturday and look to create scoring chances.

The Canadiens are also without goaltender Carey Price as he is currently in the concussion protocol. Montreal is allowing just 2.76 goals per game, but things get much tougher without their star goalie in the net.

Flames Solid on Special Teams

Calgary doesn’t have great season stats as a team, but the Flames have been great on special teams. The Flames kill off 80 percent of their penalties, and the power play scores one out of every five attempts.

Johnny Gaudreau leads the Flames with 15 goals on the year, and he does a lot of things well for his team. Elias Lindholm has a team-high 26 assists, and he is the player that gets the offense rolling most of the time.

Calgary is allowing 2.85 goals per game this season, but they were able to slow down the Montreal attack on Friday night. The Flames aren’t going to outscore the Canadiens on most nights, but they can win by slowing this game down and taking advantage of power-play opportunities.

Canadiens Control Pace in Win

Montreal has clearly not been playing its best hockey of the season, but this team is too talented to continue to struggle. The Canadiens want to speed this game up on Saturday night, and that is exactly what is going to happen.

Playing at home has always been a huge advantage for the Calgary Flames, but it’s not as big of a deal without a packed house. Calgary needs another win to stay in the playoff race, but they are going to come up a bit short this time around.

The Canadiens are going to find enough offense to take control of this game, and the Flames simply can’t keep up. Bet the Canadien Flames money line over the Calgary Flames.

Player Prop

Tyler Toffoli Over 0.5 Total Points (-105)

If the Canadiens are going to rebound from last night's 4-2 loss to the Flames, they are going to need a productive game out of winger Tyler Toffoli. So far, the 8-year veteran has delivered while leading the team in points (34) and goals (23) on a career-high 17.2 shooting percentage.

Toffoli has collected goals in each of the last two contests and has points in 8 of the last 9 Montreal wins. In fact, it's safe to say as Toffoli goes so go the Canadiens this season. In games in which Montreal has won, Toffoli has 24 points on 14 goals and 10 assists with a +/- of 15. In losses, he has only 10 points on 9 goals and 1 assist with +/- of -14.

Expecting the Canadiens to bounce back with a victory tonight, we'll take Tyler Toffoli (-105) to have a productive game and go Over 0.5 Total Points.
