Cleveland Cavaliers at Los Angeles Lakers Betting Preview/Player Prop

NBA Previews

Now that the NBA Trade Deadline has come and gone, the real push for the playoffs has begun. The Los Angeles Lakers host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday night in what could be an interesting matchup.

Cleveland is not likely to make the playoffs in the East with a current record of 17-27, but this team is intriguing. The Cavaliers have gone 3-2 in their last five games, and they have some impressive wins on their resume.

The Lakers have lost four straight games, and they are starting to slide in the Western Conference standings. Los Angeles remains a betting favorite to win the NBA Championship, but they are currently playing through some adversity.

The Los Angeles Lakers are 5.5-point favorites over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday night.

Cavaliers Can’t Score Points

The Cleveland Cavaliers are averaging just 104 points per game this season, making them the lowest-scoring team in the league. Cleveland has been right around league average in terms of defense, but they have to find offense to win some games.

Point guard Collin Sexton is scoring 24 points per game, and he has emerged as one of the top young players in the NBA. Cleveland is shooting just 34 percent from the three-point line, and that number will need to improve if the Cavaliers want to become a playoff contender.

Cleveland has gone just 6-15 on the road this season, and they will need to get off to a good start to keep this game close. The Cavaliers are trying to build for the future, and there are some solid pieces there.

Lakers Playing Without Stars

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently without both LeBron James and Anthony Davis, leaving them extremely shorthanded. Those two players do almost everything for the Lakers, and the team has struggled without them.

Montrezl Harrell and Kyle Kuzma will be called on to step up on the offensive end, and each player is capable of leading this offense. The Lakers don’t shoot it well from deep, and they will be looking to score inside.

Los Angeles is allowing just 106 points per game, and that defense could carry them to a victory on Friday night. The Lakers are being tested right now, but this could pay off in the long run.

Lakers Defeat Cavaliers in Battle

The Los Angeles Lakers still have enough talent to win some games without their two stars, but it’s time for them to prove it. Los Angeles simply can’t afford to keep losing games, and this is a great opportunity to turn things around.

Cleveland might have some impressive wins this season, but they just don’t have the offense that is needed to win games with consistency. The Cavaliers are catching a big break by playing the Lakers shorthanded, but it likely won’t matter.

Cleveland will keep this game close throughout, but they just won’t have enough scoring in the end. Bet the Cleveland Cavaliers +5.5 over the Los Angeles Lakers, but it is the home team that gets the win.

Player Prop

Darius Garland (-140) Over 1.5 Three-pointers

Darius Garland has been producing at a high rate and his skills were on full display Wednesday in the Cavs victory over the Bulls while Collin Sexton sat out. In that game Garland had 22 points, hit 4 three-pointers and dished out nine assists.

Tonight Garland will look to take advantage of a short-handed Lakers team that looks even more vulnerable heading into their second game in as many days. The Lakers gave up 17 threes to Philadelphia on their way to a 109-101 loss at home.

Garland is averaging 2.2 threes per game on 55% shooting over his last five games. With Sexton questionable again for tonight's matchup I expect Garland to stay hot from deep. I'll take Darius Garland over 1.5 threes vs. LA.
