2021 Wyndham Championship Betting Preview/Prop Plays

10 August 2021

The next PGA Tour event is being showcased in Greensboro, North Carolina, where plenty of golfers have an opportunity to make a statement. This event will also feature a handful of prominent golfers looking to stand out in a competitive field.

The purse is on par with some of the higher ones fans have seen this year. With this championship featuring just a handful of top-ranked golfers, it could really be anyone’s game here.

Tournament Details

Date: Aug 12–15, 2021
Course: Sedgefield Country Club
Watch on: CBS, GOLF
Purse:$6,400,000

Betting Overview

This course is known for allowing good scores, but there are times where it has bitten other players. The top golfers playing will need to be at their best in hopes of the playoffs coming up soon.

Since this event has a lot of golfers that typically score well, it could be open to the field. Momentum heading into this event and good putting could be a difference-maker here.

Head to Head Matchup to Watch

Webb Simpson (-29.848) and Adam Scott (-29.650) make a unique pair to watch. Simpson is the market favorite, but Scott could be a sleeper for this event.

Both golfers bring forth a solid iron and putting game. This could be important leading up to the final round and make or break their chances.

Golfers That Could Win

Will Zalatoris (-31.451) is the 30th world-ranked golfer and has a lot to prove to the other ranked golfers. His performance at the World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational was a good one, as he placed eighth. However, he needs to win here if he wants to make it to the playoffs.

Louis Oosthuizen (-26.651) has been red hot in his ability to make cuts this year. The last time he missed one was back last year at the RSM Classic. He is still searching for a win, despite having four runner-ups and eight top 10 finishes.

Potential Winning Pick

Webb Simpson (-29.848) is still searching for a win this year. His most recent performances were a T19 in The Open Championship 2021 and a T15 in the World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational.

In the past, he has performed well at the Sedgefield Country Club. This includes him finishing in the top three out of each of his last four starts at this golf course. Simpson remains a top pick for a reason, as this course has been like a second home to him.

It looks like we are in for an open and exciting tournament.

Prop Plays

Top 20 Finish: Hank Lebioda (+200)

Lebioda hasn’t played since withdrawing from the 3M Open three weeks ago after his father was hospitalized. He was on his way to another strong performance, making the cut following a pair of 69s to open.

Prior to his withdrawal, the 27-year-old lefty had a streak of three straight Top 10 finishes, including a fourth at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Rated No. 6 in this week’s Dunkel Index, we’ll take Lebioda (+200) to pick up where he left off and finish in the Top 20 this week.

Top 20 Finish: Charl Schwartzel (+180)

Like Lebioda, Schwartzel hasn’t played a Tour event since the 3M Open where he barely missed out on picking up his third career PGA victory.

It was his second second-place finish of the season (Zurich Classic being the other) and followed a third at the Byron Nelson and Top 20 finish at the US Open.

Rated No. 8 in this week’s Dunkel Index, we like the 36-year-old South African to stay hot and pick up another Top 20 finish.

Top 40 Finish: Talor Gooch (-110)

Gooch also returns to the course following a very respectable tie for 33rd at the British Open. He also made the cut at this year’s PGA Championship.

In fact, Gooch has now made the cut in seven straight events. His best showing over that stretch was a 14th at the Charles Schwab Challenge and an 18th at the Memorial. Earlier in the season, the Oklahoma State product finished fifth at the Players Championship and fourth at the Houston Open.

Rated No. 12 in this week’s Dunkel Index, we like the 29-year-old to continue his ascent up the rankings and finish in the Top 40.

Top 40 Finish: Jhonattan Vegas (-105)

The last name says it all as this pro has been money over the last few weeks. He was tied for the lead after 7-under 64 in the first round of the 3M Classic before settling for a tie for second.

That matched his effort from a few weeks earlier when he tied for second at Congaree. He hasn’t missed the cut in eight straight events and also added a 16th-place finish at the Olympics for Venezuela. His length off the tee (No. 9 in driving distance at 310.8) gives him plenty of birdie opportunities (35th in birdie average at 3.97) to stay in contention.

Rated No. 18 in this week’s Dunkel Index, we’ll take Vegas (-105) to the bank again with a Top 40 finish.
