The Cavaliers, who are the top seed in the South Region and No. 1 overall, finished with a rating of 84.542, just ahead of Villanova’s 84.479. The Wildcats are the top seed in the East. The other two No. 1 seeds — Xavier and Kansas — finished No. 8 and No. 11, respectively, in the Index. The lowest-rated team to make the field was MEAC champion North Carolina Central, which finished at No. 293. The highest-rated team not to make the field was Penn State, which finished at No. 22.
