NCAA Football Division 1-AA Rankings
Week 1: No Mountaineer Upset This Year
Last year Appalachian State stunned the football world by knocking off Michigan
on the road. History did not repeat itself this season as the Mountaineers
were handled by a well-prepared LSU team (41-13). It was the first time
the defending champion from I-A met the I-AA champ, and it was all the Tigers in
this one as they bolted out to a 31-0 halftime lead behind Charles Scott's 144
rushing yards and two TDs. The loss does not knock Appalachian State from
the top ranks of the first I-AA Index, however. Here are the
complete rankings for the games played through September 1.
