Final: Gators Give Buckeyes Black Eye

Coming in heavy underdogs in most systems, including Dunkel, Florida shrugged off the critics and routed previously unbeaten Ohio State (41-14) to claim the BCS Championship and the top spot in the final Index for the 2006 season.  Chris Leak and Tim Tebow ran Urban Meyer's two-quarterback system to perfection while the Gator defense put the clamps on Heisman winner Troy Smith and the OSU offense.  USC moves up to No. 2 with its solid win over Michigan (32-18) in the Rose Bowl and LSU finishes at No. 3 after dismantling Notre Dame (41-14) in the Sugar Bowl.  Here are the final rankings for Division I-A.

Week 14: UCLA Foils Trojan Title Bid

USC's bid to return to the BCS championship game for the third consecutive season was foiled by crosstown rival UCLA in a 13-9 upset.  The win was especially sweet for a Bruin team that was beaten by the Trojans 66-19 last season.  The loss by USC opened the door for Florida to play in the title game even though the Gators finished with just the 11th best rating in the Index.  Florida's opponent, Ohio State, cruised with the best regular season rating, which the Buckeyes held since Week 4.  Here are the final regular season rankings for Division I-A through the games on December 2.

Week 13: USC Rolls Over Irish

USC positioned itself for a spot in the BCS championship game with a 44-24 win over Notre Dame.  The Trojans got a big performance from QB John David Booty (265 yards) and three TDs from WR Dwayne Jarrett to solidify their hold on the No. 2 spot in the Index, while the Irish dropped to No. 27.  Here are complete rankings for Division I-A through the games on November 25.
