Mets Finish Regular Season No. 1
The Mets jumped out of the gate early and cruised the rest of the way, finishing
with the best record in the N.L. and the top Dunkel rating for the regular
season. New York just barely edged its crosstown rival the Yankees to
position the two teams as the favorites to reach the World Series.
Detroit, Minnesota and Oakland round out the top five giving the A.L. four of
the top five teams overall. Here are the complete baseball ratings for the

2004 Season
Boston Completes Improbable Run
The Red Sox were down 0-3 to the Yankees in the ALCS and on the brink of
elimination when they launched an eight-game winning streak that carried them to
their first World Championship since 1918. Boston finished off New York by
taking the final two games at Yankee Stadium and then swept the Cardinals, who
finished the regular season with the highest rating in the Dunkel Index.
The postseason run easily pushed the Red Sox into the No. 1 spot in the final
Dunkel Baseball Index for 2004. St. Louis dropped to No. 2 while Houston,
which narrowly lost a seven-game series to the Cards in the NLCS, finished at
No. 3. Here are the final baseball ratings for the 2004 season.
