Boston Completes Improbable Run

The Red Sox were down 0-3 to the Yankees in the ALCS and on the brink of elimination when they launched an eight-game winning streak that carried them to their first World Championship since 1918.  Boston finished off New York by taking the final two games at Yankee Stadium and then swept the Cardinals, who finished the regular season with the highest rating in the Dunkel Index.  The postseason run easily pushed the Red Sox into the No. 1 spot in the final Dunkel Baseball Index for 2004.  St. Louis dropped to No. 2 while Houston, which narrowly lost a seven-game series to the Cards in the NLCS, finished at No. 3.    Here are the final baseball ratings for the 2004 season.
